Calliope Games Unveils The Mansky Caper! Wanna Join The Heist?
Calliope Games is thrilled to announce its first new release of 2018. The Mansky Caper, designed by Ken Franklin, will be launching soon on Kickstarter, with an anticipated release in Spring 2018. Featuring immersive art, pre-built three-dimensional components, and amazingly interactive game play, The Mansky Caper will blow you away! Each game of The Mansky Caper is an exciting heist for 2 – 6 players 8+ years old which plays in less than an hour.
Ken Franklin’s The Mansky Caper is more than just another game release. This project has become a labor of love for Calliope Games. Every aspect of the game has been designed to maximize the Prohibition-era theme and provide the greatest experience possible. The game comes with shiny plastic gems, drawstring bags, and really cool 3-D safes to open – all of which are prebuilt when you open the box!
When it came time to hire an artist for the project, the perfect candidate was Matt Franklin, son of the designer, who is not only someone who understood the vision and importance of the project but is an amazing artist with numerous art credits in the game industry in his own right. The history of this game is incredible (we’ll share that in a future Calliope Games Newsletter), but suffice it to say The Mansky Caper has been extensively play-tested and is now ready to shine on game tables around the world.
It’s 1925. You and your Family of Associates have been trying to get respect for years. But the richest mobster in the country, Al Mansky, has been cramping your style. Al’s a bit eccentric; he doesn’t trust the cops or banks, so all his loot is in his mansion, guarded by a diabolical security system of explosive traps. The good news is that he’s out of town.
It would be a shame if something happened to all that loot, but a Family (working together) that bested Al would make quite a name for itself. Of course, the most fame – and (dare we say) leadership of the Family – goes to the person who walks away from the job with the most loot.
Your colleagues may not agree with you – but you all owe each other favors. Calling in the right favor at the right time is what leadership is all about in this business. The key is to work together to help yourself – and don’t get blown up!
In The Mansky Caper, players team up to ransack rooms of Al Mansky’s mansion, opening safes to find the valuables inside. Split loot with others in the room, and watch out for twists of fortune and dangerous traps that can ruin your plans with a bang! The winner is the player who has accumulated the most loot in their private stash at the getaway car by the time Al’s mansion is completely ransacked.

Anticipated Calliope Games Titles Will Be Available In Late 2017!
Calliope Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Ancestree, Capital City, and ShutterBug, the next three games in its ongoing Titans of Gaming series. This product line, designed by some of the greatest designers working in the industry, presents family-friendly tabletop games that are easy to teach, play in under an hour. All three titles are expected to release in the 4th quarter of 2017.
Ancestree is an tile drafting game designed by Eric M. Lang, illustrated by Larry Elmore and colored by Adelheid Zimmerman. In Ancestree, players get to build their personal family trees! Over three rounds, players cleverly choose Ancestor tiles and cultivate their lineage, scoring points for generations, wealth, and marriages. In the end, the player with the highest score wins and gets to brag that “My family is better than yours!” Ancestree is for 2-6 players ages 8+ and play in 20-40 minutes.
Capital City is a quick-playing card game designed by James Ernest and colorfully illustrated by Brian Bowes. Over four seasons, players hire new kinfolk arriving from the train to run their buildings on Main Street. Picking the right characters can provide bonus points – but may also help the other players! At the end of the year, the player with the most prosperous town will become Mayor of Capital City! Capital City provides 3-6 players ages 8+ a light, strategic experience in about 30 minutes.
ShutterBug is a fast-paced game of set collection and exploration designed by Mike Elliott and illustrated by Char Reed. It is 1932 and the world is fascinated by growing rumors of hidden creatures that roam America. As a freelance photographer looking to make a name for yourself, you must crisscross the country, following tips that lead you to “snap the myth” and take the creature pictures that the tabloids most desire. ShutterBug is for 2-6 players ages 8+ and plays in 20-40 minutes.

First, let’s talk about DICEY PEAKS!
Now, Dicey Peaks isn’t slated to appear on store shelves until late September / early October, but we will have limited pre-release supplies of this amazing tile-and-dice adventure game for sale at our booth. There will only be a small number allocated across all four days, and when they’re gone, they’re gone! So come get in on the Yeti Party early!
Speaking of Dicey Peaks, we are proud to host the one and only Scott Almes – designer of Dicey Peaks, the Tiny Epic series, and many other games – in our booth all four days, taking on challengers for the summit of Yeti Mountain, and signing copies!
Beyond that, we will also be showing off our next three releases, due to arrive on stores in October. These are ShutterBug by Mike Elliott, Ancestree by Eric M. Lang, and Capital City by James Ernest! All three are amazing new entries in the Titans of Gaming series, and we can’t wait to show them off!
As if that weren’t enough, we also have the clever puzzler Wordoku, plus the dice frenzy Running with the Bulls (by Paul Peterson), delicious worker placement game Menu Masters (by Zach and Jordan Weisman) and smash hit party game Hive Mind (by Richard Garfield) making their Gen Con debut this year!

Summer is on its way, and that can mean just one thing! Pool parties? Vacations? Sunshine? Heck, no! It means a wonderful assortment of game conventions, and the first one is Origins Game Fair!
Calliope Games will be out in full force at Origins!
We will have wonderful comfy demo tables set up, and will be running games all five days! You can even try out our newest game, the delightful puzzler Wordoku, and maybe even get a sneak peek at some games due out in the coming months!

We wanted to share an interesting article about the benefits of playing board games with your teens. Psychotherapist Ugo Uch, posted on Psychology Today.com an article describing the difficulties parents can have teaching their teens on the Autism Spectrum how to develop emotional resiliency. One of his teaching strategies in helping his clients is play therapy. He discovered our board game, Tsuro, and quickly discovered what a great tool it was to teach teens about cause and effect without having to lecture them. Ugo states, “The Tsuro board game has now become my personal favorite and I strongly recommend this game for parents who have received far too many complaints from their teens about being lectured.”

First, we want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 2016 had its ups and downs, for sure, but looking ahead to 2017 — at least in the gaming world — it’s gonna be a wonderful ride!
We want to thank everyone who supported our Titan Series project; the first games from that line — Menu Masters, Hive Mind, and Running with the Bulls — are out in the world and people have been enjoying them, which is great to see!
Behind the scenes here at Calliope, we have been deep in development on the next wave of Titan Series games. It’s been incredible to work with a seriously amazing group of designers, from as we develop the next wave of Titan designs. Beyond that, we even have a couple of other surprise titles in the works, one of which we will be announcing very soon!
