Calliope is a tiny company. We consist of just three full-time employees and a handful of contractors from around the world. Despite our small size, we vary drastically from person to person when it comes to religion, politics, nationality, sexual orientation, and more. Breaking with usual practices, we’re vocal about our opinions and differences in the workplace. While it can cause friction, more often it leads to a respectful discussion in which all parties learn a little bit more about a different point of view. We’re a better team and better friends as a result.
This post isn’t meant to be self-congratulatory. As Calliope grows, it’s likely we’ll need to reign in our discussions and keep them out of the workplace. As Calliope grows, we may need to post more like a brand and less like a small group of people. For now, though, there is one thing we can absolutely agree on, and today, September 11th, is an appropriate day to share it.
Remember those who lost their lives on 9/11, and honor them by loving and respecting each other.
